A Fresh Chapter in Hospitality Design

A hotel rebrand is an opportunity to do more than refresh a space. It's a chance to create a new experience for guests and give a property its own distinctive personality.

As Baron's Cove prepared to enter a new chapter under the Faraway Hotels banner, the vision called for thoughtful design details and custom furnishings that would help bring the property's refreshed identity to life.

Contraxx partnered with the design team to manufacture specialty hospitality furnishings that balanced an ambitious design vision with the practical demands of renovating an existing building.

The Challenge

The design called for furniture that was anything but ordinary. Banquettes with curved details, specialty finishes, and distinctive material combinations brought plenty of character to the project, but also required precision and attention to detail during fabrication.

One particularly notable detail was the use of a bold, repeating striped upholstery fabric on the banquette backs. Maintaining consistent pattern alignment across the curved corner seating surfaces required careful planning and craftsmanship.

Working within an existing building presented additional challenges. Irregular wall conditions, existing gas plumbing, and other site-specific considerations meant that careful measurements and coordination were essential to ensuring the custom pieces would fit the space as intended.

The Contraxx Solution

Contraxx worked closely with the design team to translate the design vision into custom, installation-ready furnishings.

The project included custom upholstered banquettes and a one-of-a-kind retail display shelving feature, each bringing its own combination of specialty materials, construction details, and craftsmanship.

The banquettes paired generously upholstered brown seating with contrasting cream and brown wave-patterned backs. Curved areas at corner seating required particular attention during upholstery to maintain consistent pattern alignment.

The mother-of-pearl wall covering specified for the curved details of the banquette surrounds presented a unique fabrication challenge. Achieving the designer's vision required careful planning and material testing to understand how the specialty finish would perform on the curved surfaces. By producing a prototype section of the banquette before moving into full production, Contraxx was able to test the application, work through the material limitations, and develop a successful approach that brought the design intent to life.

The custom retail shelving was designed to make an impression. Richly finished wood framing, decorative millwork details, mother-of-pearl accent panels, woven metal mesh backing, and integrated LED strip lighting come together to create a display feature that is both functional and visually distinctive. Traditional woodworking details meet specialty materials and modern lighting to give the retail area a custom architectural element.

Careful site measurements taken by the Contraxx team and coordination around irregular walls and existing gas plumbing helped ensure the furnishings would accommodate the building's conditions without compromising the design intent.

The Result

The completed furnishings bring warmth, character, and individuality to Faraway Sag Harbor. From the carefully tailored upholstery of the banquettes to the richly detailed retail shelving, each piece contributes to a cohesive design experience while reflecting the property's refreshed identity.
