Kixby Hotel

The building at 45 West 35th Street in Herald Square, Midtown Manhattan was originally constructed between 1900 and April 1902 as an apartment-hotel for short-term and long-term guests. It was developed by Robert F. Spalding and designed by architect Harry B. Mulliken in the Beaux-Arts style, a grand architectural look typical of the period.

It opened on May 1, 1902, as the Collingwood Hotel with about 250 rooms, quickly becoming part of the vibrant early-20th-century hotel scene near Herald Square — a key crossroads for travelers and shoppers

In 2019, the property was relaunched as the Kixby Hotel, reclaiming and reinterpreting the historic Collingwood building as a boutique luxury hotel in the heart of Herald Square.

The project was led by co-owner and managing partner Justin Arest, whose family had operated the hotel site since 1995, with additional investment and hotel expertise from partners including Ira Drukier and Richard Born of BD Hotels, a noted New York-based hospitality group.

Contraxx manufactured and installed 120 luxury guest rooms with custom furniture, including upholstered headboards, bed bases, nightstands and desk/dresser units with custom fabricated hardware and bases. Concept drawings and model room furniture were also provided by Contraxx.
